Companies to collaborate on development and delivery of next-generation fax service

V.O.N. CONFERENCE, LAS VEGAS

- Signaling the continued development of the enhanced Internet Protocol (IP) services market, GTE Internetworking, a division of GTE Corp. and Hewlett Packard Company (HP) are teaming-up to develop and deliver enhanced IP fax capabilities on future HP LaserJet products.

The relationship between the two leading-edge technology companies includes technical development, joint engineering, and systems integration. The relationship will leverage HP's market reach and product excellence and GTE's broadband network capabilities and expertise in delivering IP-based communications solutions to provide customers with greater efficiency and productivity in sending faxes.

Bill McGlynn, General Manager of HP's Personal LaserJet division stated, "HP is already strong in capitalizing on the tremendous growth brought about by the Internet, via standards, products and target applications. Our relationship with GTE in the area of next-generation fax capabilities is another example of how HP is changing the paradigm from 'working the Web' to putting the Internet to work for our customers."

"We are delighted to partner with HP to jointly bring enhanced IP Fax technologies to its expansive customer base," said Paul O'Brien, vice president of GTE Internetworking and general manager of IP telecom. "This alliance represents the first step in bringing the enhanced potential of IP capabilities to the end-user. HP's history of delivering innovative, high-quality solutions to its customers has made it a recognized leader in the market and the perfect partner to deliver this emerging technology."
