BETHESDA, Md. -- Bell Atlantic has begun delivery of some 212,000
copies of its 1998 White and Yellow Pages to businesses and residences
in the Roanoke, Va., area. The cover of the new Roanoke Directory
features an illustration of the Historic Roanoke City Farmers' Market.
For the first time in the Roanoke region, Yellow Pages listings also
feature an optional extra line for E-mail and Web site addresses in
response to businesses' growing use of the Internet. Industry
analysts report that some 50 percent of all U.S. companies have set up
Web sites.
"The Bell Atlantic directories for the Roanoke area reflect our belief
in providing our customers and advertisers with local information and
services that allow for global access, such as the Internet," said
Kathy Koelle, vice president of sales at Bell Atlantic Directory
Services.
The cover of the Roanoke directory features an illustration of the
Historic Roanoke City Farmer's Market, the oldest continuously
operating farmers market in Virginia. For over 114 years, the market
has provided space for farmers to sell fresh fruit, vegetables and
flowers to the community. The market has been recognized by the
Lyndhurst Foundation as a "Great American Public Place," alongside
such other winners as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington,
D.C., and Central Park in New York City.
The directory cover illustrator is artist Mary Lynn Blasutta, who is
based in New Paltz, N.Y. Her illustrations will be featured on each
of Bell Atlantic's 500 directories in the communities it serves in 13
states and Washington, D.C.
