NYNEX Reaches Agreement With TCG To Interconnect Telephone Networks in New York
NEW YORK, N.Y., August 22, 1996 -- NYNEX announced today that it has signed a new interconnection agreement with Teleport Communications Group (TCG) designed to meet the 14-point checklist detailed in the Telecommunications Act of 1996, one of the requirements for NYNEX's entry into the long-distance market in New York.
The new agreement expands on a similar arrangement NYNEX reached with TCG in New York in 1994 to connect the two companies' telephone networks.
"This is another step in the process of realizing the opportunities envisioned by the Telecommunications Act, including the development of a robust wholesale market in New York," said Jack Goldberg, NYNEX Vice President - Wholesale Markets.
NYNEX expects today's agreement to serve as a template for negotiations with TCG for agreements in states throughout its service area, which includes Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and a small portion of Connecticut as well as New York.
NYNEX has been engaged in negotiations with more than a dozen telecommunications carriers in order to complete the interconnection agreements required to meet the 14-point checklist detailed in the Telecommunications Act of 1996 -- one of the requirements for NYNEX's entry into the long-distance market in the Northeast.
NYNEX reached comprehensive interconnection agreements June 27 with MFS Communications Company, July 31 with Hyperion Cable and Aug. 13 with WinStar Communications. NYNEX has also signed resale agreements with Frontier Corp. and USN Communications (U.S. Network Corp.) .
