PCS PRIMECO SELECTS CBIS SOLUTION FOR INNOVATIVE BILLING
AND CUSTOMER CARE
DALLAS--PCS PrimeCo, L.P., and Cincinnati Bell
Information Systems
(CBIS(sm)) today announced that PCS PrimeCo will
deploy CBIS's Precedent
2000(sm) Customer Care and Billing System in its
personal communications
services (PCS) network. The companies expect to sign a long-term,
definitive agreement in the next month. The potential value of the
contract between the two companies was not disclosed.
Precedent 2000 is a third-generation, UNIX-based solution that will
offer PCS PrimeCo increased processing efficiency, architectural
flexibility, reduced maintenance expense, real-time rating, and
productivity improvements that lessen the overall cost of business for
the service provider. The solution will run in CBIS's new
state-of-the-art data center and business complex to be dedicated this
summer in Orlando, Florida.
"It is through the system that CBIS will provide that PCS PrimeCo
will
be able to provide simplified, innovative, and differentiated billing
and customer care services," said Benjamin L. Scott, president and
chief executive officer of PCS PrimeCo. "This advanced,
state-of-the-art system gives PCS PrimeCo the flexibility to implement
high-quality, innovative services that are not offered by any other
wireless carrier today. We are ready to accept delivery of the system
immediately in order to expedite PCS PrimeCo's planned service launch
in the fourth quarter of this year," Scott said.
"Precedent 2000 is a continuation of CBIS's commitment to deliver
comprehensive solutions which utilize the latest technology and
provide the rapid, flexible, and integrated information management and
customer care demanded by today's competitive business climate" said
James F. Orr, president and CEO of CBIS. "We value our relationship
and will utilize our experience as the leader of the communications
billing industry to help PCS PrimeCo provide outstanding service to
its customers in this new marketplace."
The Precedent 2000 solution features open systems, client/server
processing and employs graphical user interfaces and relational
database technologies that are leverageable across target markets.
PCS PrimeCo will be bringing to the consumer and business marketplaces
a new generation of wireless products and services that are easy to
use, buy, and afford. Initially, customers can expect to see voice
services, and soon after wireless data services, such as
store-and-forward messaging (voice, fax, e-mail), and eventually,
Internet connection and other advanced wireless services.
PCS PrimeCo is the four-way wireless partnership of AirTouch
Communications [ATI], Bell Atlantic [BEL], NYNEX [NYN], and US WEST
[USW], and plans to offer PCS services to customers in 11 major U.S.
areas covering a population of 57 million people. Combined, the
alliance's cellular and PCS properties comprise a nationwide area
serving 39 of the top 50 U.S. markets and nearly 170 million people.
