Seminars Provide 'How-to' Guide to Help Non-Profit Agencies
Get Funding Online

Bell Atlantic and Cambridge Computer Learning Center
Host Grant Writing Workshops Feb. 27

February 24, 1999

John Bonomo ,

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Non-profit organizations can find out how to
use the Internet to help with their fund-raising at two workshops this
Saturday in Poughkeepsie.

The sessions, sponsored by Bell Atlantic and the Cambridge Computer
Learning Center, are designed to assist non-profit agencies in locating
potential funding sources through the Internet and in writing and
submitting their applications on-line. Two grant writing workshops will
take place at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Cambridge Computer
Learning Center, located at 143 Boardman Rd., Poughkeepsie.
Those who wish to attend should call (914) 686-2627 to reserve a seat.

"Non-profit organizations are facing greater challenges in funding their
community programs," said John Butler, Bell Atlantic's Community
Outreach manager. "The need to identify alternate funding sources is
essential to their survival. The Internet presents these organizations with
an excellent tool in finding and obtaining the needed financial support."

More than 20 non-profits are registered to take part in the two workshops.
Attendees will receive advice on how to access important Web sites and
guidance on how to apply for a Bell Atlantic Foundation grant.

Butler said that similar seminars held in January at Ulster County
Community College in Kingston were well-received by administrators of
several organizations.

Robert Chieffo, president of Cambridge Computer Learning Center, said,
"Our school is pleased to provide the computer equipment for training and
instruction in this grant writing exercise. Our center is designed to help
people and organizations. We are pleased to partner with Bell Atlantic to
serve our community together."

The seminars will focus on four key elements of online grant writing:

  • background information that will strengthen the grant proposal;
  • a funding request that includes a statement of primary purpose;
  • the need or problem that the organization is seeking to address; and
  • an explanation of how the organization will measure the
    effectiveness of its activities.
