Verizon's Victor Cabral has been named the Corporate Hispanic Advocate of the Year by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC). Cabral, vice president-Government and Hispanic Affairs for Verizon, received the honor recently at the organization's annual convention.
Cabral is responsible for Verizon's strategic partnerships and event sponsorships in the Hispanic community. Cabral also helps to ensure that Hispanic small businesses have better access to capital and technology by working with the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, as well as regional and state chambers across the United States.
"It is an honor for me to receive this award from the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce," Cabral said. "Together, Verizon and the chamber have been successful in making new opportunities available to Hispanic entrepreneurs across the nation."
Cabral also works with Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon, to obtain funding for programs benefiting the Hispanic community. Funding priorities include work force development, education and literacy programs that narrow the digital divide and increase opportunities for Hispanics.
The USHCC represents the interests of more than 1.2 million Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States and Puerto Rico, which earn more than $200 billion annually. The chamber serves as the umbrella organization for more than 200 local Hispanic chambers nationwide, and it actively promotes the economic growth and development of Hispanic entrepreneurs.
