BASKING RIDGE, N.J. --  Forrester Research has recognized Verizon Business as a leading U.S. provider of managed multi protocol label switching (MPLS) services.

In its October 2008 report, "The Forrester Wave(tm):  Domestic North American Managed MPLS Services, Q4 2008," the firm states that among U.S. providers Verizon Business is "the overall leader," based in part on the company's strong placement in strategy.  The report also states that: "Among U.S. providers, Verizon Business is first in service breadth, network performance, managed services definitions, and overall managed MPLS customer base."

Verizon Private IP, the company's flagship wide-area networking service, is an MPLS-based network-based virtual private network (VPN).  Available as a managed or unmanaged offering, the company's fastest-growing service provides large-business and government customers with a private, secure Internet protocol (IP) foundation to deliver voice over Internet protocol, collaboration and business applications to users around the globe.  Verizon Private IP offers integrated performance and traffic-management capabilities to provide high performance, reliability and flexibility.

"This Forrester report underscores Verizon Business' investment in developing Verizon Private IP and IMPACT, our comprehensive network management platform," said Mike Marcellin, vice president - global product marketing, Verizon Business.  "This flexible global offering enables our customers to rest easy knowing their critical network infrastructure is managed by an IP networking leader - one that combines leading technology, knowledgeable people and proven processes."

The report evaluated three Canadian and seven U.S. service providers, using approximately 48 criteria grouped into three high-level categories - current offering, strategy and market presence.  The evaluations were conducted after examining past research, assessing user needs, and interviewing service providers and customers.
