Verizon to Host Third Annual Free Electronics Recycling Event June 7 in Basking Ridge for Area Residents, Verizon Employees
Consumers and businesses can bring their unwanted electronics for disposal to the visitor parking lot overflow area on One Verizon Way on June 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event is part of Verizon's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Verizon's goal this year is to collect 350,000 pounds of recyclable materials. The supplier disposing of the discarded items will adhere to Verizon's zero-landfill objective, meaning the materials will be reused or recycled so that they do not end up in a landfill.
Unlike past events, televisions and CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors will be accepted this year. Other accepted items include laptop and desktop computers; LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors; computer cables; mice; keyboards; gaming consoles; telephones and answering machines; stereo and audio equipment; paper shredders; alarm clocks; printers; cameras; conferencing equipment; remote controls; earphones; small electronic appliances; and electronic toys without batteries. Hard drives will not be wiped.
Items that will not be accepted include hazardous waste (such as batteries, inks/toners, mercury bulbs); units containing fluid-like motors and pumps; refrigerators and freezers; medical waste; and radioactive material including X-ray equipment.
