DALLAS -- The U.S. Hispanic community now has access to expanded search features and more Hispanic-focused content on SuperPages.com en Español (www.superpages.com/espanol) -- Verizon's popular Spanish-language online directory, which launched in the fall of 2001. Verizon created these enhancements as part of its outreach to the growing, influential U.S. Hispanic market.

Along with a new SuperTopics (SuperSecciones) section that addresses U.S. Hispanic interests, SuperPages.com en Español has expanded its Spanish-language search categories and functionality to make it even easier to find information and businesses.

"Hispanic consumers are using SuperPages.com en Español to find goods and services, and advertisers are using it to reach their target customers," said Patrick Marshall, group vice president -- marketing for Verizon Information Services. "It's clear that the Internet is an increasingly important tool in reaching U.S. Hispanics."

The SuperTopics include content that is unique to the Hispanic audience. This new section provides information ranging from how to plan a wedding to tips on opening a new business. There are also direct links to merchants providing related goods and services.

As an example, the Education (Educación) SuperTopic includes interviews with Hispanic students at Harvard University, offering advice on preparing for college as well as on how Hispanic parents can get involved in their children's education. In addition, the Family (Familía) SuperTopic provides a guide for Hispanic mothers-to-be, including information about relaxation techniques, exercising and maternity clothing advice. SuperTopics also include Business and Finance (Negocios y Finanzas), Event Planning (Organización de Eventos) and the Internet among others.

One of the most popular features of the original SuperPages.com en Español is My Directory (Mi Directorio), a section where users can create a personal address book. Nearly one out of every five page views includes a visit to this section.

According to a Fall 2001 Internet study conducted by Roslow Research, Hispanics spend about 35 hours per week watching TV, listening to the radio and surfing the Internet. Approximately 20 percent of that time is spent online, and that percentage is growing. The study also says Hispanics now use the Internet in Spanish the majority of the time.

SuperPages.com en Español is just part of Verizon's growing portfolio of services offering Hispanics more choices in how they access directory information. Verizon produces the largest number of Hispanic directories in the U.S. with more than 50 bilingual directories scheduled to be in circulation by the end of 2002.

"We know that the U.S. Hispanic community is a strong and vital force in the U.S. economy," said Marshall. "To both meet and exceed its needs, Verizon will continue to add enhancements and features to both the online and print directories."
