DALLAS - In its ongoing commitment to improving computer literacy in the communities it serves, Dallas-based Verizon Information Services will present a $45,000 grant to North Dallas High School (NDHS) that will provide computers, software and books to enhance the computer literacy skills of students. The donation also includes $75,000 worth of refurbished PCs to be used in the school's computer lab. NDHS is an inner city school with more than 90 percent minority enrollment, including young men and women from over 32 countries.

At an on-campus pep rally at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, Verizon Information Services Vice President - Marketing Pat Marshal will present the $45,000 check to NDHS Partners in Education President James "Buff" Parham. Educators and community leaders will join the ceremony, and NDHS band members, cheerleaders, athletes and theater students lead the audience in a Verizon SuperPages cheer.

"When it comes to success in today's high-tech world, Verizon recognizes that computer literacy is becoming just as important as the ability to read a book," Marshall stated. "We are delighted to have this opportunity to contribute to a prosperous future for the young men and women of North Dallas High School."

Parham added, "We are extremely grateful to Verizon Information Services for their generous contribution. It will make possible a significant expansion of our computer education curriculum, and it will help ensure that our students are able to compete for desirable, career-oriented jobs after they graduate." Annually, more than 900 students benefit from the school's computer education program.

Verizon's grant will fund the purchase of new computers and associated software and learning materials that will be located in a main computer lab in the school's library and smaller labs in designated classrooms. In addition, students in computer repair classes will use computers donated from Verizon's inventory.
