NEW YORK - Verizon and Raindance Communications have signed an agreement to add graphics capabilities to Verizon's voice conferencing service enabling businesses to make presentations and collaborate on document editing during conference calls. The upgrade, called "Web Conferencing," will be available to Verizon business customers in February.

Web Conferencing will allow customers to hold online meetings using both voice and desktop onscreen tools without additional software and hardware. The applications for Web Conferencing are:

  • Presentations and events: Live one-way meetings, such as training sessions, product rollouts and formal presentations, where a presenter delivers content to multiple attendees.
  • Collaborative conferencing: Two-way, interactive meetings in which the content, in any software application, can be manipulated onscreen in real time by participants. In this scenario, the host is granted flexible meeting control options and attendees can brainstorm, create, and modify documents.

"Web conferencing services are quickly becoming one of the core components of successful, day-to-day business communications, and we're giving our customers a comprehensive collaborative service," said Kitty Linder, president of Verizon LiveSource. "Combining Raindance's Web Conferencing technology with Verizon's voice conferencing service allows us to add capabilities that will increase productivity and save our customers even more time and money."

Verizon's voice conferencing service enables businesses nationwide to hold meetings by phone on demand, saving travel time and costs.

"Selection by Verizon is a strong vote of confidence that Raindance is able to meet the distinct needs of major carriers," said Paul Berberian, president and chief executive officer of Raindance. "Our goal is to redefine the online meeting experience from start to finish, emulating the natural flow of an in-person meeting with easy-to-use and customizable technology."
