NEW YORK - Verizon has expanded its Multilingual Sales and Service Centers to assist Chinese-speaking customers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia and West Virginia.

With this expansion, Verizon can provide in-language assistance -- in Mandarin and Cantonese -- to all Chinese-speaking customers throughout the company's territory. Prior to this expansion, Verizon offered assistance in Chinese to customers in the West and Northeast.

"Verizon is committed to serving all of our diverse customers," said Clare Fang, group manager for multicultural marketing for Verizon. "We understand that some times it's just easier to conduct business in your own language."

Verizon will provide the expanded service at its Multilingual Sales and Service Centers in Santa Monica, Calif., and Queens, N.Y. Customer service representatives who speak Chinese will help customers place orders for Verizon products and services, provide information and answer questions. In select areas, the two multilingual centers also provide assistance in Chinese for small- to medium-sized business customers.

Verizon offers an array of communications, broadband and entertainment products. Recently Verizon began offering FiOS TV, which delivers hundreds of digital video and music channels, high-definition programming, video-on-demand content, a robust interactive programming guide and other customer-friendly features. Verizon is constructing its fiber-optic network in 16 states, or more than half the states where it offers landline communications services.

For over a decade, Verizon has provided in-language sales representatives to support customers in Spanish, Russian, Korean and Vietnamese, in addition to Chinese. Today, more than 1,000 employees staff 13 Verizon consumer multicultural sales and solution centers in various parts of the country, communicating with customers in their native languages.

Verizon has been a strong supporter of the Asian community and recently sponsored several Lunar New Year events in New York City and Alhambra, Calif.
