NEW YORK - Attention, all gamers! Verizon Online DSL has a deal for you.

Starting today, as part of Verizon Online DSL's special offers, subscribers will be offered an exclusive $5-off coupon and free shipping* on the popular PC game "The Sims 2," recently released by Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS).

In addition to the discount and free shipping offer, Verizon will be a key sponsor in EA's upcoming The Sims console game, "The Urbz: Sims in the City," to be released in November, as well as four other upcoming online games hosted on www.ea.com, EA's online game site. "The Urbz: Sims in the City" will feature Verizon-branded storefronts, billboards and vehicles. Verizon Online DSL customers will also be offered a $5 discount coupon and free shipping* for "The Urbz: Sims in the City" console game, upon its commercial release, along with exclusive desktop wallpaper featuring Urbz characters.

Verizon Online customers will also be able to download from Verizon.net an exclusive movie showing Urbz characters in action.

"This is all about giving our customers more value, while also growing and differentiating our DSL business and giving greater exposure to the Verizon brand," said Amy Rubenstein, Verizon vice president for brand management. "The more content we can add onto the Verizon.net site, and the better applications that enhance the broadband experience, the more attractive our product will be over other broadband choices. And our partnership with EA gives Verizon the opportunity to align with the premier brand in the gaming industry."

"The Sims 2" and "The Urbz: Sims in the City" are the latest addition to Verizon Online's Broadband Beat entertainment site. The Broadband Beat portal (http://broadbandbeat.verizon.net) is optimized for high-speed access, featuring news, music, games, streaming video and more.

"Obviously, this is different from our traditional branding and advertising," said Rubenstein. "With the fragmentation of the mass market, we are looking for new and relevant ways to connect the Verizon brand with key target segments and create strong broadband associations for the brand in consumers' minds. Gaming is one of many areas where we have an opportunity to demonstrate the richness of the Verizon broadband experience and deliver the brand in a contextually relevant way."

  • -- $5-off and free shipping offer for "The Sims 2" expires on Dec. 31, 2004. Any $5-off and free shipping for "The Urbz: Sims in the City" will expire no later than Feb. 28, 2005. Valid only in the U.S. For other details, visit http://broadbandbeat.verizon.net/games/shop.
