September 24, 2001
In response to the growing demand for wireless communications products in the Inland Empire, Verizon Wireless celebrated the official grand opening of it's new Magnolia Town Center retail store in Riverside this weekend. As a part of the grand opening festivities on Saturday, Sept. 22, Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider, presented 10 phones and free service to the Riverside County Probation Department.
Verizon Wireless aids domestic violence prevention efforts nationwide. This donation will provide the security and mobility of wireless phones and service to those served by the Probation Department's domestic abuse program. Riverside County Probation Department Chief Deputy Malcolm R. Curry joined the grand opening event and discussed how the wireless phones will provide extra security for those who have been victims of domestic violence.
"We are extremely grateful for the 10 pre-programmed digital wireless phones and free servicedonated by Verizon Wireless," said Riverside County Probation Department Chief Deputy Malcolm R. Curry. "The phones, which can be carried by our program participants at all times, will help ensure the safety of women who are threatened by stalking or by domestic violence. In an emergency, pressing one button on the phone will connect the program participant with the nearest law enforcement agency dispatcher, who can quickly assess the situation and send her the help she needs."
"We are pleased to be a new neighbor, and to support this valuable, community-oriented program serving the Inland Empire," said Andy Villalpondo, manager for Verizon Wireless' new Riverside retail store. "With the strong support of our executive leadership team, Verizon Wireless has become a recognized leader in aiding the fight against domestic violence and I am proud that the company is putting its wireless products and services to work to enhance the safety of local residents."
