BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – Verizon has named Manuel Sampedro area president of the company’s wireline operations in the mid-Atlantic region, which includes Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Sampedro succeeds William Foshay, who was recently named president of the Northeast Area for Verizon Wireless.

Sampedro will lead marketing, sales and service delivery for the company’s wireline voice, Internet and video services, overseeing a team of more than 13,000 technicians, and sales and service employees.

“Manny has the skills and experience to help grow our business in the mid-Atlantic by finding new and better ways to serve our customers in a highly competitive marketplace,” said Bob Mudge, Verizon president of consumer and mass business markets.  “Verizon technology enables our small-business and residential customers to lead a borderless lifestyle – where they can access their communications services any time they want, anywhere they want on any device they want.  And leaders like Manny know that we’re just starting to see how innovative platforms like FiOS can foster richer customer experiences and help grow local businesses.”

Most recently, Sampedro was region president of consumer and mass business markets for Verizon’s New York South/East region.  In that position, he oversaw more than 5,000 employees who served customers on Long Island and in Brooklyn, the Bronx and the northern suburbs of New York City.  Prior to that, Sampedro was region president of New England for Verizon.

Sampedro began his career with Verizon in 1997, working at the company’s customer sales and service center in Beltsville, Md.  Since then, he has held a number of positions within Verizon’s staff support, engineering, central office and operations organizations.

Sampedro earned a bachelor’s degree in international business from Towson University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Baltimore.  He is a graduate of Leadership Maryland, and serves as an advisor to the Merrick School of Business in Baltimore.

Sampedro will be based in Livingston, N.J.
