Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile Employees Receive American Red Cross Community Service Award
ORANGEBURG, NY — The American Red Cross recently honored Cathy Dietz of Commack, and Joseph Riley, of Oyster Bay, both managers of Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile's Communications Stores, for their continuous support of the Red Cross' Nassau County Disaster Services team.
"Cathy and Joe are the true embodiment of the 'Help Can't Wait' spirit of the Red Cross," said Peter von Berg, executive director of the American Red Cross. "They, along with the support of their company Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile, provide invaluable services to the Red Cross and our community."
"It's an honor to accept this award on behalf of Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile and all the employees at our Hicksville and Westbury stores who have worked around the clock to mobilize our emergency response team for the Red Cross and the residents of Nassau," Riley said.
In accepting the award, Dietz encouraged others to become more involved in the community. "At Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile we, too, believe that community service is a responsibility, not a choice. We encourage everyone to do what they can to support the efforts of the American Red Cross and other worthy organizations that serve our communities."
The company was selected in part for:
- Its outstanding efforts during the TWA Flight 800 disaster, mobilizing its emergency response team of employees, supplying 200 wireless phones, and service, at no charge, to rescue workers at the crash site, to families of the victims, and to the investigative units involved in the operation.
- Its tireless efforts, delivering six phones to the Red Cross at 4:00 a.m. during the Hempstead Apartment building fire earlier this year.
- Its immediate response during the October 1996 coastal flood, supplying the American Red Cross with eleven phones and unlimited service.
