Verizon Wireless To Donate $25 To Domestic Violence Programs For Every Point Scored By Green Bay Packers
MILWAUKEE, IL — Domestic violence shelters and prevention programs in Wisconsin will reap significant benefits if the Green Bay Packers prove to be a high-scoring team this season.
That's because Verizon Wireless has kicked-off a season-long program, called "Protection Is the Name of the Game," in which the nation's leading wireless communications provider will contribute $25 to domestic violence programs in Wisconsin for each point scored by the Packers during the regular season games.
More than a dozen domestic violence shelters and prevention organizations in the Green Bay, Madison and Milwaukee areas will benefit from the program. Monies will be distributed weekly to designated shelters, the amount dependent on the number of points scored by the Packers during the game played the preceding weekend.
"Protection is the Name of the Game" stems from Verizon Wireless' ongoing commitment to support domestic violence prevention initiatives on a regional and national basis, as well as the company's position as the official wireless provider of the Green Bay Packers.
" "Protection is the Name of the Game" is an opportunity for Verizon Wireless to build awareness of the domestic violence issue throughout the state for an extended period of time. We hope it's a high-scoring season for Brett Favre and the Packers," said Jack Leff, Regional Marketing Director for Verizon Wireless.
Leff added that the Packers fast start during the 2001 season has already paid dividends for three domestic violence prevention agencies. During the first three victories, the Packers potent offense resulted in contributions totaling $2,325. The Sojourner Truth House in Milwaukee will receive $700; Domestic Abuse Intervention Services in Madison, $925; and Family Violence Center in Green Bay, $700.
