BEDMINSTER, NJ — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider and operator of the nation's largest and most reliable wireless network, received 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Awards in two categories - Industry Leadership and Service Innovation. The awards were presented on Monday, December 8 at the CDMA Development Group's (CDG) (www.cdg.org) 2003 CDMA Americas Congress currently being held in Miami, Florida. Voting in this year's awards were CDG members, as well as business and industry media and analysts.
The CDG awarded the Industry Leadership award to Richard Lynch, executive vice president and chief technical officer of Verizon Wireless, in recognition of his role in the launch of both CDMA 2000 and 1xEV-DO services. As CTO, Lynch is responsible for the performance of Verizon Wireless' coast-to-coast multibillion-dollar wireless voice and data network covering more than 230 million people. The Industry Leadership award recognizes the significant contributions made by Lynch and the guidance he provided to the company and the industry toward the advancement of CDMA wireless technology.
The Service Innovation award is given to the operator that has leveraged the capabilities of 3G to introduce innovative and industry leading services to the market. This award was given to Verizon Wireless for the implementation of open standard MMS and the successful deployment of 1xEV-DO services in San Diego and Washington, DC.
"Every day we focus on providing customers with excellent customer care, reliable services and high-quality phones and equipment. But at the foundation of all of this is the network and the technology - CDMA2000 - that enables us to continually improve our voice services and efficiently introduce industry leading data services," said Richard Lynch. "We are extremely honored to be recognized for the success of these efforts and we will continue to strive to bring services and products to market that add value and utility to our customers."
"We congratulate Dick Lynch for his industry leadership and Verizon Wireless on its service innovation and successful deployment of CDMA2000 and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO services," said Perry LaForge, executive director, CDG. "The CDMA community is leading 3G and we applaud Verizon Wireless for its role in the global success of CDMA2000."
