Verizon Wireless Opens New Communications Store In East Northport, New York

ORANGEBURG, NY — In response to the growing demand for the company's voice and data products and services, Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, has opened its newest Communications Store at 4000 Jericho Turnpike in East Northport.

The store is open Monday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The store phone number is 631-499-1820.

Grand-opening activities will begin on Friday, September 8 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Huntington Chamber of Commerce and conclude on Saturday, September 9 with a special appearance by Mets' star shortstop Jose Reyes who will sign autographs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

"Customers choose Verizon Wireless because they want service on the nation's most reliable wireless network," said Store Manager Chris Syperski. "Our new East Northport store is staffed by knowledgeable wireless professionals who offer consumers a broad range of equipment and services. Current customer favorites include the hot new Chocolate phone, a Verizon Wireless exclusive; VZ Navigator, which provides audible turn-by-turn directions throughout the U.S.; and V CAST Music which allows customers to download full songs directly to their V CAST-capable wireless phones and Microsoft® Windows® XP-based PCs."

Over the past six years, Verizon Wireless invested $2 billion to enhance its New York Metro area network and more than $30 billion across the nation. Demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the second quarter of 2006 as the company added 1.8 million net new customers, more than any other wireless carrier. Verizon Wireless now serves 54.8 million customers nationwide.

"Consumers and businesses hungry for even more wireless content can come in and learn about the company's high-speed wireless Internet connections with Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess service," Syperski said. "With BroadbandAccess and a PC card that slides directly into most laptop computers, customers can quickly and easily connect to the Internet wirelessly and download e-mail attachments at speeds 10 times faster than dial-up."

Syperski said consumers also choose Verizon Wireless because it is a company that gives back to the community. As part of the grand-opening celebration, Reyes will join the store manager to present 30 Mets tickets to Brighter Tomorrows, a local not-for-profit agency providing shelter to domestic violence survivors and their families. Verizon Wireless is a recognized corporate leader for its commitment to preventing domestic violence and raising awareness of the issue.

The East Northport store also participates in the company's HopeLine® phone recycling program. HopeLine collects no-longer-used wireless phones to be refurbished, recycled or sold; proceeds are donated to domestic violence advocacy groups or used to purchase wireless phones with airtime for use by survivors. Since 2001, consumers across the nation have donated more than 2.5 million used wireless phones to HopeLine, including nearly 100,000 wireless handsets in the New York Metro area.

This past month, the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence received a $2,500 Hopeline Grant thanks to local residentsresidents' support of the HopeLine phone recycling program. The Coalition also was awarded a $10,000 HopeLine Grant to purchase a minivan for its Safe Harbor Shelter in 2003. For additional information, visit the HopeLine Web site at

The East Northport Communications Store is the thirteenth to open in Suffolk County and one of 132 Verizon Wireless retail locations in the New York Metro area.
