Verizon Wireless Delivers Enhanced Wireless Service With New Cell Site In Winona, Mississippi

WINONA, MS — Can you hear me now? In Winona, the answer is an emphatic “yes.” A new digital cell site has been built and is located on U.S. Hwy 82 providing improved Verizon Wireless voice, National Access data and Mobile Broadband data coverage to customers in Winona and along I-55, U.S. Hwy. 51 and U.S. Hwy 82. The new cell site was completed in June and represents an investment of more than $173,000.

The new site utilizes a virtual flow of 3G high-speed wireless broadband (EV-DO Rev. A) technology. It also improves more advanced wireless applications, such as V CAST – which allows customers to stream video clips, play cutting-edge 3D games and download song tracks over the air; VZ Navigator(SM) – a location-based service offering maps, audible driving directions, traffic updates, gas station pricing; and the newest, most reliable Push To Talk technology.

In addition, Verizon Wireless customers using the company’s Mobile Broadband data service to wirelessly access their e-mail and calendars, the Internet and other information, can expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits per second and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. At those speeds, customers can upload or download a 1 Megabyte e-mail attachment – the equivalent of a small PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file – in less than two seconds.

The new site is part of the company’s continuing investment to expand coverage, increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network throughout the country. Already this year, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $5 million in Northern Mississippi to advance and expand its network capabilities.
