SAN ANTONIO, TX — Today, Verizon Wireless announces it has signed an agreement with the Competitor Group to become the official wireless partner of the second annual Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon. The agreement gives Verizon Wireless the exclusive rights to tie its brand to the largest marathon and ½ marathon in Texas, with more than 30,000 participants expected for the race on Sunday, Nov. 15.
“Last year was a great opportunity to partner with Verizon Wireless,” said Lucy Diaz, event manager. “Verizon Wireless served as a great complement for us to reach our active audience and we expect nothing but great things from the company again this year.”
The agreement provides exposure for Verizon Wireless through an onsite presence featuring the Verizon Wireless brand prominently displayed on the race course and at the Finish Line Fiesta. Race participants and attendees can be among the first to experience the invasion of the highly-anticipated DROID by Motorola. The first Android device by Verizon Wireless provides blazing fast Internet speeds, access to thousands of applications and hundreds of widgets, WiFi and a 5 megapixel camera.
Verizon Wireless will also provide gift cards for five complimentary ringback tones in the event goodie bags being distributed to race participants and volunteers. The company plans to participate at the two-day Health & Fitness Expo being held at the Alamodome on Nov. 14 - 15.
“The Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon and ½ Marathon is a great event for race enthusiasts and local residents, and we are proud to be a sponsor,” said Frank Antonacci, region president for Verizon Wireless. “We are committed to providing the best wireless experience to the San Antonio community, whether you’re an athlete using one of our fitness applications or a business executive utilizing our high speed digital network on the new DROID.”
Some of today’s hottest music can be found on Verizon Wireless ringback tones and V CAST Music with Rhapsody. While training for the marathon, customers can listen to their favorite Rock ‘n’ Roll tunes through V CAST Music with Rhapsody. Customers are also encouraged to take advantage of services like BiM Active from Bones in Motion to track their workout routines. BiM Active uses its GPS tracking technology to continuously monitor a runner’s speed, distance, calories burned, pace and route.
Verizon Wireless has been promoting race registration at their store locations throughout the region by involving their network of DJ partners at radio stations throughout the state. Since mid-September, runners have been meeting at the Verizon Wireless Quarry location three times a week, and will do so until the marathon weekend.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon & ½ Marathon is part of a national series of thirteen musically themed marathons and half-marathons. The 26.2 and 13.1-mile courses will run past many of the city’s historic sites and parks, while featuring live bands and cheerleaders positioned at each mile.
