Visiting The Kids For Parents' Weekend? Donate Their No-Longer-Used Phones To HopeLine From Verizon

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. — This fall, parents across the country are traveling to their children’s college campuses for parents’ weekend, and many are heading to local stores and malls to get their kids some great new gear. Parents whose kids are begging for the latest devices from Verizon Wireless, from DROID 2 by Motorola to the Verizon Wireless Fivespot™, are encouraged to donate their old phones to HopeLine® from Verizon.

HopeLine from Verizon puts the nation’s most reliable wireless network to work in the community by collecting no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider and turning them into support for victims of domestic violence. Proceeds from the HopeLine program are used to provide wireless phones and airtime to victims of domestic violence and cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention, awareness and advocacy. Students and parents can donate their phones at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores nationwide or by mail using the postage-paid mailing label available at Students, faculty members and parents planning activities and events for their colleges or universities should also consider organizing a HopeLine phone drive.

College students and their parents who don’t have phones to donate but are still looking to make a difference can participate in Verizon and the National Network to End Domestic Violence’s (NNEDV) text-to-donate campaign, an easy way to support those affected by domestic violence. Customers can make a $10 donation to NNEDV by texting “HOPE” to 41010, and 100 percent of each $10 donation will go to NNEDV and its affiliated state domestic violence coalitions. Verizon will waive its customers’ text messaging fees, and customers’ $10 donations will appear on their next monthly bills. As part of the text-to-donate campaign, HopeLine from Verizon will also match donations up to $50,000.
