Test Drivers, Start Your Engines!

A team of drivers will be motoring around Daytona in high-tech vehicles this week during the big races in an awesome display of speed and power.

But these aren’t racers roaring around high-banked turns or screaming down the straightaways. These are Verizon test teams making sure the company’s network performance is fine-tuned, fast and strong for the hundreds of thousands of motorsports fans at auto racing’s signature speedway.

“Our network will handle hundreds of millions of calls, texts, tweets, photos, videos, emails and more during the speed weeks, and we compete hard to deliver the very best coverage and service,” said Micheal Diener, a Verizon test driver and engineer logging laps around the speedway and surrounding streets.

Diener drives a test vehicle packed with high-tech equipment and dozens of antennas on the roof and body. On-board phones and computers make thousands of voice calls and data connections to ensure coverage is strong and superior to competitors.

Verizon has the nation’s largest 4G LTE network, covering more than 300 million people across the country.

“It’s great to be on such a strong team,” Diener said. “And to help deliver a winning wireless network for our customers.”
