GottaBeMobile’s Josh Smith’s Must-have Apps

We’ve come a long way when it comes to apps for smartphones and tablets. Yet finding the apps that best suit your needs and interests can be daunting. Oftentimes, the best way to uncover app “gems” is to see what others recommend, which is why we asked Gotta Be Mobile editor Josh Smith, a tech guru who sees and reviews apps each day for his job, which ones make the cut for him.

1. Alien Blue – Alien Blue is hands-down the best Reddit app for iPhone or iPad. It allows me to quickly read posts and subreddits and interact with the site. I'll use it even when I am at a computer.

2. Convo, Gmail and Hangouts – Hangouts and Gmail allow me to keep in touch with our GottaBeMobile team on iPhone or Android devices. We also use Convo, a social tool for companies that allows employees to collaborate in real time, for most of our internal communication so that it isn't lost in a sea of email.

3. Tweetbot – I love to tweet and keep up with news and information from many people. Tweetbot lets me connect with others and use Twitter lists very easily to see local Tweets or just tech Tweets instead of the entire stream.

4. Calm – It's easy to get stressed out. Calm, a digital meditation guide, helps me refocus with a five- to fifteen-minute break in the afternoon.

5. UPS and FedEx Mobile – I get a lot of packages for reviews and from my Amazon Prime membership. I signed up for accounts with UPS and FedEx and registered my address with their systems. Now as soon as a tracking number is created with my address, I can see it and get an estimated delivery time right on my device.
