The Verizon FiOS team joined up with the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge to test the full potential of completely connected homes powered with 100+mpbs downloads at the recent Digital Home Innovation Boston-Cambridge Meet-up.
More than 160 entrepreneurs, developers, investors and other professionals converged at the Cambridge Innovation Center on April 2 for this ecosystem event. Technology leaders from companies such as Cisco, Harvard Business School, Nokia, Harmonix, Sonos and the MIT Sloan School were also in attendance. Attendees saw live demonstrations and learned how several start-up companies are building new products and services optimized for today’s high-speed IP-connected home. Demonstrations and informational sessions were presented by Sookbox, Q Factor Communications, Tomorrowish, ZoomTilt and Brass Monkey – all of whom are constantly redefining the standards for the connected home experience.
Kevin Wiant of the board of directors of the MIT Enterprise Forum and the Cambridge Innovation Center, and Donna Cupelo, Verizon vice president for New England, opened the event and welcomed the crowd. Bob Mudge, Verizon president of consumer and mass business markets – the group responsible for FiOS, provided an overview of Verizon’s Innovation initiatives and Verizon’s efforts to partner with entrepreneurs to bring more innovation to FiOS customers.
“This is a very thrilling night for the entire Verizon team,” said Mudge. “It’s very invigorating for us to be surrounded by so many people who are leading innovation in the state, in the country, and around the world.”
Tushar Saxena, Verizon’s director of corporate technology, offered an overview of the Verizon Tech Lab, where Verizon innovators are working with entrepreneurs to develop creative new services.
In addition, a very special guest, Greg Bialecki, Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Economic Development, spoke to the Boston-Cambridge innovation community about Massachusetts’ leading government and technology initiatives and the support of Governor Deval Patrick’s administration.
