Long Island foodies, rejoice!

Verizon FiOS1 is launching a new show Thursday night (Feb. 24) that will focus exclusively on the restaurant and food scene on Long Island.

Called "Restaurant Hunter" and hosted by FiOS1's award-winning reporter Rob Petrone, the show is a relaunch of the popular two-minute feature segment "Reservations with Rob," which has been running on FiOS1 News.

The premiere of "Restaurant Hunter" will air at 8 p.m. and will focus on "cheap eats."  In this episode, Petrone will visit Zim Zari in Massapequa Park, American Roadside Burger in Smithtown, and Long Island Bagel Café in Merrick.  Airing every Thursday evening, each weekly half-hour show will focus on a particular restaurant or food theme.  Upcoming episodes will focus on Asian cuisine, barbecue and "High-End Huntington."

"Restaurant Hunter" will be rebroadcast several times throughout the week.  Long Islanders can check FiOS1 News Long Island for the programming schedule.

FiOS1 Long Island is available on Channel 1 only for Verizon FiOS customers on Long Island.

"We'd received a ton of letters and viewer comments about the restaurant segments as part of FiOS1 News, so we knew we had a winning concept to explore the restaurant scene on Long Island," said Michelle Webb, general manager of FiOS1.  "There are hundreds of choices and varieties on the Island, and we know our viewers can't wait to see what we'll be uncovering.  We'll be giving our viewers the best inside info on the L.I. restaurant scene."

As an added bonus, many of the restaurants Petrone will visit and review will become part of the expanded Verizon Perks program, through which Verizon residential customers get discounts, insider information and other unexpected promotions from national and Long Island brands and stores.  Customers just need to sign on to their myverizon.com account, or register for one; click on the My Perks tab, and look for the FiOS 1 "featured restaurants" icon.

"'Restaurant Hunter' is one more way that Verizon FiOS connects with Long Islanders," said Webb.  "You can't get any more local than the restaurants, delis and cafes that dot all of the towns and villages on the Island.  We invite all our customers to help us decide which restaurants to profile next by going to our website and telling us about their favorite place to eat on the Island.  We are counting on Long Islanders to help us make 'Restaurant Hunter' a delectable viewing experience."

Tune in to a new episode of "Restaurant Hunter" every Thursday at 8 p.m., only on Channel 1, FiOS1 Long Island.
