FARMVILLE, VA — Verizon Wireless has completed work that more than doubles the number of calls its extensive wireless network can handle for Farmville customers.
The company has deployed additional digital call handling equipment in its cell sites in Farmville and Fergusonville. The new capacity and coverage will mean improved service and fewer blocked calls along Route 15 toward Kingsville, Route 45 toward Raines Tavern as well as in the town of Farmville. The Fergusonville site provides coverage along Route 360 to Amelia and Route 307 to Farmville.
"With this significant wireless network upgrade, we're providing our local business and consumer customers the technology and capabilities they've been asking for," said Patrick Devlin, president of Verizon Wireless' Washington/Baltimore/Virginia Region.
The new systems, known as 'carriers,' use code division multiple access or CDMA digital wireless technology. CDMA digital handsets transmit at much lower power levels than analog phones for significantly longer battery life and talk time, and provide customers advanced wireless services such as Internet access and text messaging.
Verizon Wireless is investing more than $200 million in its network in the Washington-Baltimore-Virginia region as part of the company's nationwide $4 billion network improvement program in 2001 to offer customers service on the most extensive wireless network in the U.S.
