GREENSBORO, NC — Verizon Wireless today announced that nearly 65,000 additional customers in the North Carolina Triad will be able to experience the speed and capabilities of America’s largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network as the company expands network access on Sept. 20. The planned expansion will extend coverage in Forsyth, Guilford and Rockingham counties.

“Our 4G LTE network in and around the Triad provides speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G for surfing the Web, downloading files, streaming music and video, and staying in touch with family and friends,” said Jerry Fountain, president for Verizon Wireless’ Carolinas/Tenneessee region. “We understand that the way people communicate and do business is constantly evolving, and we’re committed to offering innovative solutions for wireless communication to local businesses, schools and families.”

Expanded 4G LTE service also means residents of Forsyth, Guilford and Rockingham counties now have access to HomeFusion, a residential broadband solution made possible by the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network. Using 4G LTE, HomeFusion Broadband delivers high-speed, in-home Internet access, particularly where Internet options are limited or are not currently available.

Verizon Wireless first brought the 4G LTE network to Greensboro and Winston Salem over a year ago in July 2011. The following North Carolina cities also have access to Verizon’s 4G LTE network: Asheville, Burlington, Charlotte, Durham, Fayetteville, Goldsboro, Greenville, Hickory, High Point, Jacksonville, Kinston, Lumberton, New Bern, Raleigh, Roanoke Rapids, Rocky Mount, Washington, Wilmington and Wilson.

Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network is the largest in the nation, covering more than 75 percent of the U.S. population in more than 370 markets across the United States. In real-world, fully loaded network environments, customers using Verizon’s 4G LTE should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
