According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), there are more than 5 million commercial buildings and factories in the United States, and 30 percent of the energy being used in buildings is being used inefficiently. To help protect the environment, companies across the country are taking steps to help improve energy efficiency. These steps range from replacing Halogen bulbs with LED lights to implementing systems that monitor and control the heating, ventilation and air conditioning in a building.
Since 1992, the EPA has partnered with more than 20,000 companies and organizations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Verizon Wireless is being named as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for its efforts to protect the environment by reducing energy usage. Last year, Verizon Wireless’ ENERGY STAR certified store locations helped reduce its energy use by more than 5 percent.
As individuals, you can join these companies and reduce your carbon footprint. It’s as easy as putting your computer in sleep mode when it’s not being used, unplugging appliances when they’re not in use and keeping the vents in your home clear.
