Verizon announces 100 5G schools by 2021.
This weekend at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City, Hans Vestberg and artist and activist Pharrell Williams announced Verizon’s plan to install 5G in 100 schools by 2021. We continue to commit resources and technology to build digital infrastructures in underserved schools and communities around the U.S. through our Verizon Innovative Learning program. At Global Citizen Festival, customers used a custom Snapchat lens that showed some of the incredible work Verizon Innovative Learning does for schools and students.
The New York Times partners with Verizon for free school subscriptions.
Last week, The New York Times and Verizon announced a sponsorship program that will grant free access to the Times’ website on computers at 12,000 schools across the country. The program has the potential to reach more than 7 million students. Along with the subscription partnership, the Times and Verizon are working on a research project that will examine the best ways to put 5G technology to use in the field for news reporting.
Cleveland high school becomes first with 5G.
Verizon Innovative Learning announced its first 5G school. Students at E Prep Cliffs in Cleveland, OH, will now have access to 5G speed and capabilities that will help them better complete their school work and experience more STEM opportunities in the classroom. In the words of Hans: “Our mission is clear. We are going to end the digital divide.”
