Prepaid TravelPass® FAQs

Prepaid TravelPass lets you use your prepaid plan's domestic talk, text and data* in 140+countries and destinations outside the US for a set daily fee. Calling within the country you're visiting and back to the US are both included.

After the included 5 GB/day high speed data allowance, you get unlimited data at 3G speeds for the remainder of your TravelPass session. You’ll receive a text offering additional high-speed data when you reach your high-speed data allowance.

Note: TravelPass isn't available with prepaid data only plans.

You're only charged on days you use your device in a TravelPass country:

• $6/day in Mexico and Canada.
  • Good to know: Calling, texting and data use in Mexico and Canada are included at no extra cost with our 15 GB, Unlimited or Unlimited Plus prepaid mobile phone plans.
• $12/day in other TravelPass countries.

Good to know:

• If you travel to 2 countries within a single 24-hour session or have a layover in a different country on your way to your final destination, you're still only charged for the first session.
• You’re charged a new daily fee and a new TravelPass session starts if you travel to 2 countries that have different TravelPass daily fees (e.g., from a $6/day country to a $12/day country).
• There's no need to remove TravelPass from your line when you return to the US as you're only charged on days you use your device in a TravelPass country. And there's no charge when you're in the US.

Good to know: Some apps may continue to use data while they're running in the background. So if your phone is powered on, it may use data even if you aren't actively using your phone.

You must have enough funds in your prepaid account to cover the Prepaid TravelPass daily fee:

1. A 24-hour TravelPass session starts automatically when you use your device in a Prepaid TravelPass country (e.g., make or answer a phone call, send a text or use data).
   1. Your account is debited the $6 or $12 TravelPass daily fee at that time, or you’ll be asked to add funds to your account to cover the daily fee.
2. For TravelPass to work, you must turn on cellular data or data roaming.
   1. A TravelPass session can be started by background data, including:
      • App content refreshing (e.g., Weather apps, Fitness Tracker, etc.)
      • Syncing (e.g., with email)
      • Device or app software updates
3. Two hours after the session starts we send you a text letting you know when your 24-hour TravelPass session ends. Using your device after that starts a new session.

If you're on a compatible device and prepaid plan, TravelPass is already on your line.

You can remove TravelPass by visiting:

• My Verizon app
• My Verizon website

Most smartphones with HD Voice are compatible with TravelPass. But Prepaid data-only devices aren't compatible with TravelPass.

How to check if your plan and device are compatible for Prepaid TravelPass.

• Visit your Add-ons page in My Verizon.
• If you don't see TravelPass listed in your available add-ons, you may not be eligible for it. You may need to upgrade your prepaid device and/or switch to an eligible monthly plan in My Verizon.

With TravelPass you can call within the country you're visiting or call back to the US (including Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Guam and Northern Mariana Islands).

You could be charged for Prepaid TravelPass if you are within the US border but inadvertently connect to a Canadian or Mexican border. To avoid the charge, remove Prepaid TravelPass from your line.

Note: You can consider getting a prepaid unlimited plan that includes talk, text and data in Mexico and Canada.

Wi-Fi Calling isn't included with TravelPass. Wi-Fi calling to a country other than the US is charged international long distance rates regardless of whether or not you have an international travel plan.

Good to know:

• The same rates from your international calling plan will apply for making international long distance calls made while you’re outside of the US.
• If you don't have an international long distance plan, you're charged international long distance pay-as-you-go rates.
