What is Prepaid TravelPass?

Prepaid TravelPass lets you use your domestic talk, text and data* in 140+countries and destinations outside the US for a set daily fee. Calling within the country you're visiting and back to the US are both included.

How am I charged for Prepaid TravelPass?

You're only charged on days you use your device in a TravelPass country:

$5/day in Mexico and Canada.
- Calling, texting and data use in Mexico and Canada are included at no extra cost when in our 15 GB, Unlimited or Unlimited Plus prepaid mobile phone plans.
$10/day in other TravelPass countries.

Travelling to multiple countries:

If you travel to 2 countries within a single 24-hour session or have a layover in a different country on your way to your final destination, you're still only charged for the 1st session.
You’re charged a new daily fee and a new TravelPass session starts if you travel to 2 countries that have different TravelPass daily fees (e.g., from a $5/day country to a $10/day country).
There's no need to remove TravelPass from your line when you return to the US as you're only charged on days you use your device in a TravelPass country.
- There's no charge when you're in the US.

Good to know: Some apps may continue to use data while they're running in the background. So if your phone is powered on, it may use data even if you aren't actively using your phone.

*High-speed data applies for the first 2 GB/day with reduced 3G speeds thereafter. You may receive a text offering the option to buy additional International high-speed data when you reach your high-speed data allowance.

How does Prepaid TravelPass work?

You must have enough funds in your prepaid account to cover the Prepaid TravelPass daily fee:

A 24-hour TravelPass session starts automatically when you use your device in a Prepaid TravelPass country (e.g., make or answer a phone call, send a text or use data).
1. Your account is debited the $5 or $10 TravelPass daily fee at that time, or you’ll be asked to add funds to your account to cover the daily fee.
For TravelPass to work, you must turn on cellular data or data roaming.
1. A TravelPass session can be started by background data, including:
  - App content refreshing (e.g., Weather apps, Fitness Tracker, etc.)
  - Syncing (e.g., with email)
  - Device or app software updates
2 hours after the session starts we send you a text letting you know when your 24-hour TravelPass session ends. Using your device after that starts a new session.

How do I add or remove Prepaid TravelPass?

TravelPass is automatically added to your line. Learn more about removing or re-adding TravelPass in My Verizon.

If you're on a compatible device and prepaid plan, TravelPass is already on your line.

What devices and plans are compatible with Prepaid TravelPass?

Most smartphones with HD Voice are compatible with TravelPass. But Prepaid data-only devices aren't compatible with TravelPass.

How to check if your plan and device are compatible for Prepaid Travelpass.

Visit Add-ons page in My Verizon.
If you don't see TravelPass listed in your available add-ons, you may not be eligible for it. You may need to upgrade your prepaid device and/or switch to an eligible monthly plan on My Verizon.

I'm traveling outside the US. Which countries can I call with Prepaid TravelPass?

With TravelPass you can call within the country you're visiting or call back to the US (including Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Guam and Northern Mariana Islands).

Am I charged for Travelpass if I live in a town bordering Canada or Mexico?

TravelPass can bill you if you live near bordering Canada or Mexico. Here’s what you can do:

If you live near; Canada or Mexico, be sure to disable TravelPass if your'e staying in the US

It;'s possible you may inadvertently connect to a Canadian or Mexican network near the US border. If this happens, you may receive a free Verizon message welcoming you to Canada or Mexico.

Good to Know: As long as TravelPass is disabled you won't incur any TravelPass fees.* But if TravelPass is enabled, you may accidentally incur TravelPass fees.

Can I use Wi-Fi calling with Prepaid TravelPass?

Wi-Fi Calling isn't included with TravelPass. Wi-Fi calling to a country other than the US is charged international long distance rates regardless of whether or not you have an international travel plan.

Good to know:

The same rates from your international calling plan will apply for making international long distance calls made while you’re outside of the US.
If you don't have an international long distance plan, you're charged international long distance pay-as-you-go rates.

How much does international high-speed data cost?

International high-speed data costs the same amount as a TravelPass session in the country you're in (e.g., $5/day in Mexico, $10/day in Aruba, etc.).

Good to know:

You can purchase International high-speed data as many times in your 24-hour TravelPass session as you need.

Ensure you have sufficient funds on your account to cover the cost of the additional data.

How do I get more International high-speed data after I reach my 2 GB limit?

To get more high-speed data after you use the daily 2 GB allowance:

Check for a text message. We’ll send you a text message asking if you want to purchase more international high-speed data.
Reply SPEED to the text message to purchase an additional 2 GB of high-speed data allowance until your 24-hour TravelPass session expires.
1. If you don't reply to the text message, you'll be able to continue using data at reduced speeds until your next 24-hour TravelPass session begins.
Add funds if needed. If you don't have enough funds in your account to cover the cost of the International high-speed data, your text message will tell you to add funds.
1. Once you add the necessary funds to your account, reply "YES" to the text message to purchase International high-speed data.

Good to know: International high-speed data isn't available through My Verizon or by phone. You can only purchase it by replying to the text message you receive.

Do I need to remove Prepaid TravelPass from my line when I return to the US?

No, you don't need to remove Prepaid TravelPass when you return to the US. TravelPass only triggers a daily charge when you use your device while traveling outside the US in a qualifying TravelPass country.

Do I have to opt-in daily to use Prepaid TravelPass?

No. Once Prepaid TravelPass is on your line, it's available to use until you remove it. Here's how you're charged:

You're only charged for the days that you use your device in a TravelPass country.
There's no charge when you're in the US.
- TravelPass stays on your line so you're all set for your next trip.

How do I remove Prepaid TravelPass, so I don't get charged another daily fee?

If you remove TravelPass you will not be able to use your device while roaming. You can remove it in the My Verizon app or My Verizon website:

If your previous 24-hour TravelPass session has already expired, use a Wi-Fi connection to disable it to avoid activating another 24-hour session.
If you don't want to be charged another daily fee for TravelPass, you can disable TravelPass in My Verizon.
If you disable TravelPass, you can still use TravelPass until the end of your 24-hour session. It won't automatically renew if you attempt to use voice, text or data after that. You'll have to re-enable TravelPass if you want to use it again.
Alternatively, you can turn off your device before your 24-hour TravelPass expires to avoid additional charges.
