Your device uses GPS for navigation, fitness tracking, and location sharing. However, certain conditions can cause your GPS to stop working.

If your phone's GPS fails, you lose access to apps that rely on your location, such as:

• Mapping/navigation

• Social media app features that rely on location
• Apps to find a store or restaurant based on your location

If your GPS is not working, check these common device settings and issues:

• Location is off - Turn on the Location setting. Apps cannot work without this master GPS control.
• Power-saving mode is on - Features like Low Power Mode (iPhone) or Power Saver (Android) disable GPS services to save battery.
• Mobile data or Wi-Fi is off, or Airplane Mode is on - Most GPS apps need a stable internet connection to work.
• App permissions restrict GPS - An app needs your permission to use your location. Enable the location permission in your device settings.

GPS apps require a strong internet connection and a clear signal. The signal weakens underground or inside large concrete buildings. If your mapping app still fails, confirm the address you entered is actually on the map.

If you have problems with GPS tracking, check these items:

• Turn on the Location setting on your device.
• Disable battery optimization (like Power Saving Mode or Low Power Mode).
• Turn off Airplane Mode, and turn on mobile data or Wi-Fi.
• Enable permissions for your GPS app(s).
• Update your app(s) and device software.
• Move outdoors or to a location with a clear view of the sky. GPS works best in open areas.
• Verify the route's destination is on the map and is not blocked.

• Ensure a stable internet connection on your device.
• Update your app(s) to the latest version.
• Check your mapping settings. Make sure they don't block the route (e.g., avoid highways, avoid ferries, or avoid toll roads).
• Confirm that a path exists and nothing, such as a disaster or traffic accident, blocks the route.

A stable GPS signal requires a clear view of satellites. If you lose your signal underground, in large buildings, or in restricted areas (like a military base), move to an open location. Verizon's network can sometimes provide an assisted GPS signal.
