After appearing in cities like Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Miami, Techweek (@TechweekDET) came to Detroit. Known for its high-tech expo, stimulating summits, high-profile panels and valuable networking opportunities, Techweek’s mission is to showcase, celebrate and empower emerging tech communities across America.

More than 50 speakers leading the tech revolution in Detroit took center stage last week to discuss emerging tech trends and their impact on the community. With workshops and panels covering everything from connected cars and driverless technology to the future of fashion, mobile tech and pro sports, Detroit shined a spotlight on the thought leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators transforming the city into an emerging tech hub.

Verizon Wireless and Techweek have much in common. As a company that’s committed to incubating innovative ideas and providing solutions to societal challenges through collaborative initiatives like the Verizon Innovation Program and Powerful Answers Award competition, we are thrilled to support the startup movement here in Detroit.

We not only helped sponsor the first Techweek Detroit, but also worked to promote our part in the technology space with such devices as Delphi Connect and Delphi Connect with 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot. Both let you monitor your vehicle from your smartphone or computer. From checking your vehicle's location on a map to deciphering engine codes from your couch, you have the power to keep a close eye on your vehicle no matter where the road takes you.

All of this is part of Verizon's nationwide effort to take the wireless customer experience to the next level. At Techweek, we had the opportunity to engage with people from all over the country who are working on the newest ideas in the startup movement and offer innovators, developers and entrepreneurs the tools, technology and resources they need to discover all that wireless can do for their mobile lifestyles.

Whether they’re using our 4G LTE or XLTE network to share inspirational images like the iconic Monument to Joe Louis or share social updates from events like the upcoming Detroit Grand Prix, it’s our responsibility to keep them connected to the world around them.

While at Techweek, we took the opportunity to share news about the upcoming Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle by setting up our Verizon IndyCar at the event. Using a live 360-degree camera that sits on top of the car and a high-tech steering wheel that leverages Verizon’s technology to send critical data to Race Control Central, race officials and pit crew members are given information regarding speed, timing, scoring, race position, fuel consumption, engine performance and more.

As the title sponsor of the Verizon IndyCar Series, we’ve boosted network coverage for the upcoming Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle so fans can share updates and photos to social networks from their devices instantaneously.

Not only did Techweek Detroit allow us to showcase some of the ways we’re investing in the Detroit community, it also gave us the opportunity to educate job seekers about the rewarding career opportunities available at Verizon. At the Techweek Hiring Fair, our HR team met with aspiring tech enthusiasts and reinforced our commitment to creating jobs in the metro Detroit area.

As Detroit continues to reinvent itself as a global technology leader and transform its community through innovative ideas aimed at delivering social good, we’ll be there to support the innovators and individuals committed to this cause!
