For the 19th year in a row, Verizon was named one of Working Mother’s 100 Best Companies. The 2019 list had a key focus on companies with inclusive benefits for families, including gender-neutral leave, and support for accessible, affordable childcare — all of which are a part of Verizon’s benefits, making us one of the top companies for working mothers.

In light of this recognition, we’re highlighting the recipient of our 2019 Working Mother of the Year Award, Paige Sherman, a cross-program portfolio manager on our Verizon Connect team. With an inspiring “can do” attitude, Paige strives to give her all at home, work and in the community.

Valued mother and V Teamer.

Eighteen years ago, Paige began her career with Verizon. During that same year, she also took on another important role: Becoming a mother. In both aspects, Paige has shown tremendous dedication, always going beyond for her family and V Team.

At home, Paige is mom to two ambitious daughters, Lindsay and Sydney. Paige’s main priority is to be there for her daughters, supporting and guiding them through life’s many obstacles. Along the way, she has taught her daughters to be independent thinkers, always taking responsibility for their actions and learning from mistakes. Both of Paige’s daughters have inherited her drive to do best — Sydney is currently in college studying pre-law while Lindsay is in high school pursuing a STEM education path.

Parenting can be overwhelming at times, but it’s important to realize there is no one answer. I try not to sugarcoat things. They are individuals. Go with your gut instincts and what you feel is best for your kids.

At Verizon, Paige goes beyond her role of overseeing IT system integrations. She is also a member of the Women’s Association of Verizon Employees (WAVE), one of our Employee Resource Groups, where she advocates for and learns from women across the company, solidifying her as a recipient of the Working Mother of the Year Award.

Giving back through volunteering.

As she works hard in her roles as a mother and V Teamer, Paige also finds time to give back to her community. She uses her experience living with Type 1 diabetes to help improve the day-to-day quality of life for others with diabetes. Working one-on-one with clinical teams, she has volunteered as a clinical trial patient in an artificial pancreas study for the past 10 years.

Paige is also a Girl Scout volunteer, hosting STEM-related activities for the group. For 3 years, she hosted a series of Girl Scouts STEM events in Ashburn, VA, where over 100 Girl Scouts had the opportunity to hear female executives at Verizon speak about what made them choose a STEM career path. Her goal is to help girls see the possibilities and think more open-mindedly.

Congrats to Paige for being our 2019 Working Mother of the Year!
