You’ve resolved to become more organized and productive in 2014…so, now what? According to Amy Tokos, a Certified Professional Organizer, the answer might be in your smartphone or tablet.

“In the world of apps, there are many that can help you achieve your goals or get things done easier, but the choices can be overwhelming,” Amy said. “The good news is there are productivity apps available that will work for you. The bad news is you may have to try a few in order to find the best ones."

Before you start to download, Amy recommends you first:

  • Identify your needs. Ask yourself what you want to achieve, and look for an app that will help you meet your goals.
  • Ask around. Get recommendations from friends and co-workers.
  • Think sync. Look for apps that are easy to integrate with your current system because that will help simplify your life.

Amy says the following productivity apps and tools should give you a good first step down the road toward meeting your 2014 goals:

  • Evernote: With this app, you can take notes, create to-do lists, set up reminders and sync and share files. It also allows you to tag materials for easy searching.
  • EasilyDo: Almost like a personal assistant, this app syncs with your e-mail and will prompt you to pay bills, organize travel, track packages and much more. It also will help you remember birthdays through Facebook and prompt you to offer congrats for new jobs via LinkedIn.
  • Pomodoro: Pick a task you need to accomplish, and use this simple timer to break the work into 25 minute increments. This time management method has helped many people minimize distractions and focus on a project.
  • Everest: This is a fairly simple app that allows you to track your steps and progress toward a goal. It also allows you to follow others who are working toward goals, which can serve as great motivation.
