This week at Verizon’s Technology Today & Tomorrow legislative reception in Annapolis, MD, Verizon officials showed members of the Maryland General Assembly firsthand how Verizon is using innovation and technology to improve customers’ lives. It was an exciting and educational evening, where the story of our being a technology solutions provider for residential and business customers -- and a good corporate citizen that invests in Maryland partnerships and communities -- was shared while featuring Verizon’s new Powerful Answers campaign.

With more than 100 guests in attendance, Verizon highlighted the benefits of its networks, displayed new tablets that field technicians now are using to improve customer service, and demonstrated products such as Home Phone Connect, which provides wireless equipment for use with home voice service. Verizon also demo'd HomeFusion, a service that provides high-speed, in-home Internet access through Verizon’s 4G LTE network, a reliable alternative to residential broadband, especially in areas with limited broadband availability.

A few of Verizon’s shared success community partners -- including Bowie State University, Digit All Systems, Johns Hopkins University and Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care -- were on hand to show how they use technology in their programs. These initiatives include domestic violence prevention programs, sustainability efforts, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs and health care technology. In total, Verizon invested more than $2.5 million in Maryland initiatives during 2011-12.
