Frequently asked questions
-
Will you send me instructions on how to complete the self install?
A URL will be included with the Ethernet cable we’re sending you. You’ll be guided to the Self-Install instructions where you will be provided with step-by-step details on how to connect your Ethernet cable and complete your speed upgrade.
What is an ONT?
The Optical Network Terminal (ONT) converts the optical signal coming through the fiber into separate signals for TV, voice, and data. The ONT is installed with Fios service on either the outside or inside of your home (garage, basement, closet, etc).
Click image for a larger view. Note: Your ONT may be enclosed in a grey case.
How do I tell where my ONT is?
The ONT is installed with Fios service on either the outside or inside of your home (garage, basement, closet, Living Room, etc). Some ONTs may be enclosed within a box. The Verizon logo will appear outside the box.
Why do my router and ONT need to be located in the same room?
The Ethernet cable we’ll send to you is 6 feet in length. Your ONT and router must be in the same room to ensure you can connect to the Ethernet cable and complete your self installation with the length of cable provided, but you can self-install your speed upgrade with any length of cable.
If you need an Ethernet cable longer than 6 feet in length, they can be purchased through a variety of online retailers. When using a longer Ethernet cable, ensure that the cable is completely out of the way from any foot traffic in your home, and fully secured to a floor, wall or other surface.
How can I track my shipment?
Once you’ve placed an order, you can track your equipment shipping details through the My Fios app or at verizon.com. Click on the Self-Serve Speed Upgrade tile, and from there you’ll have a link to view shipment status.
