Learn about 2 Gigabit Connection

Perform a router speed test  to measure the speed from the Verizon network to your home router. To test the speed of your 2 Gigabit Connection, go to verizon.com/speedtest.

If you just ordered a 2 Gigabit Connection and have a same-day due date, it can take a few hours to supply your service. Wait until the end of the day before testing your 2 Gigabit Connection.

For the best possible speed, ensure your device:

• Meets or exceeds recommended system requirements
• Is connected to the Verizon Router using a wired Ethernet Connection
• Is neither configured using a power-saving profile nor running on battery power
• Browser is updated to the latest version (You may experience slower speeds when testing on some browsers due to browser internal processes.)
• Has a small number of applications running
• Has paused security software , which can affect your speed test; Once the test is complete, REMEMBER  to turn anti-malware software back ON.

Note: If your device doesn’t meet the recommended specifications for 2 Gigabit Connection, you likely won’t see your subscribed internet speed when running a device test. As higher-speed products like 2 Gigabit Connection become available, your devices are capable of supporting high-capacity speeds.

Keep in mind that when running a speed test on a Wi-Fi device, you are testing the speed of your Wi-Fi network, not the broadband speed delivered by your 2 Gigabit Connection provider.

The minimum device specifications for Fios Internet are:

• Windows 10 or higher
• 2 GHz Processor
• 4 GB RAM
• Gigabit Ethernet connection or USB3 or Gigabit ethernet adapter

Mac

• OSX 10.3.9 or higher
• 2 GHz Processor
• 2 GB RAM
• Gigabit Ethernet connection or Thunderbolt Gigabit ethernet adapter

Generally, devices meeting the above criteria will see exceptional performance on a 2 Gigabit Connection. To run a speed test on a single device, ensure your device meets the recommended criteria:

Recommended device specifications for 2 Gigabit Connections are:

Windows

• 64-bit Windows 10 Pro
• Intel Core i7 CPU @ 2.5GHZ or higher Processor
• 16 GB RAM
• Gigabit Ethernet connection or USB3 or Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

Mac

• OSX 10.12
• Intel Core i7 CPU @ 2.5GHZ or higher Processor
• 16 GB RAM
• Gigabit Ethernet Connection or Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

Only the Verizon Router supports 2 Gigabit Connection.

The Wi-Fi connection speed depends on the Wi-Fi standard your device supports. Maximum theoretical speeds supported by the existing Wi-Fi standards include:

• 802.11 a - Up to 54 Mbps
• 802.11 b - Up to 11 Mbps
• 802.11 g - Up to 54 Mbps
• 802.11 n - Up to 450 Mbps
• 802.11 ac - Up to 3,467 Mbps
  
• 802.11 ax - Up to 4,804 Mbps

Note: These speeds are best-case scenarios. Due to limitations  like the number of Wi-Fi antennas, antenna orientation, etc., devices may not achieve these speeds. 

Unsure of what Wi-Fi standard your device supports? Refer to the device manual, or call the device manufacturer.

Other external factors may cause interference and affect the speed of your Wi-Fi connection, including:

• Distance from the router
• Kitchen appliances
  
• Physical obstructions (walls, floors, etc.)
  
• Home gadgets (garage door openers, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.)
  
• Other Wi-Fi networks in the vicinity
  
• Any 802.11a/b/g device on the network (It is advised you remove this device from the network.)

It can be difficult to determine specific interferences. For the best possible Wi-Fi signal, place your router where you connect most using Wi-Fi. Place away from physical obstructions and devices that may interfere with the Wi-Fi signal. Use a wired connection to the router to achieve the fastest connection possible.

2 Gigabit Connection may still be the right choice for you if you:

• Have multiple devices simultaneously connected to the internet

• Actively stream or download content. A high-bandwidth connection ensures that each device gets enough bandwidth for its individual usage
