On today’s edition of Up to Speed Live with hosts Jen Marin and Raquel Wilson:

Historic rainfall on the West Coast

In the wake of historic rainfall and flooding, California residents are worrying about staying safe and dry. That’s why we’re offering some assistance in the form of:

  • Waiving prepaid and postpaid call/text/data usage incurred from February 4 to February 13 for California residents in the areas most impacted by the storm.
  • Committing $100,000 in relief funds to organizations including the American Red Cross, The San Diego Foundation and Wildcoast to support individuals impacted by the flooding, as well as flood mitigation efforts near the U.S. Border.

For more information: English, Espanol

How to help: Support VtoV, our employee relief fund to help employees affected by natural disasters.

🎰 What happens in Vegas… helps to make Vegas an even better place! [2:22]

At least, that’s what happens when Verizon comes to town. When we are in town to provide network support for an event like the Super Bowl, we don’t just make improvements and provide support for the game. In Las Vegas, we made lasting improvements to the network in terms of speed and capacity – not just at the stadium but for the surrounding community.

Watch the Test Force talk about their improvements and give us a tour of Allegiant Stadium [2:50]

And speaking of the community, we made grants and gave tools to small businesses, donated tech and tools for local students and worked with a nonprofit organization to provide groceries to local families.

📒🖊️ Watch out, Raquel and Jen, these Junior Reporters are learning quickly! [05:08]

Check out Nic, Julian and Amari! These students-turned-reporters were selected with help from our partners at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Recently, they were participants in the department’s 12-week DREAM program to empower students.

The best part? These junior newshounds will have the opportunity to interview famous football players and help us cover all the Verizon events leading up to the big game!

🏈Check out the Super Bowl landing page for all the events leading up to the big day.

🦺 Take the Safety Pledge for the most important people in your life [10:21]

Of all the things you can do on the job, returning home safely to your loved ones is the most important. We all know that there is no job so urgent, no text so important and no gear so uncomfortable that we should skip safety routines, text and drive or leave behind potentially life-saving gear.

Pledge to be safe (you could win a hat!): Join Hans, the Environmental Health and Safety team, and us here at Up to Speed (as well as V Teamers worldwide) in taking the Verizon Safety Pledge, and why not dedicate it to the special people who want you home at the end of the day?

🏈 Just for Fun (and swag!) take the Super Bowl Poll! [12:30]

Who do YOU think is going to win the biggest game around this weekend? If you have an opinion, just stop by the #insideverizon Slack channel and vote in our Super Bowl Poll!
