On today’s special edition of Up To Speed Live, Andy Choi hosted our 4Q Results webcast. He was joined by CEO Hans Vestberg and other senior leaders who shared their perspective on our excellent performance in the fourth quarter of 2021. They also shared their Ultra excitement for where we’re headed in 2022 and beyond.

After an inspiring opening video featuring some of the big news we made over the past year, Hans talked about how proud he was of all that the V team accomplished. “For me, 2021 was a year of more transformation than we’ve ever done as a company,” said Hans. “It’s leading to really good shareholder value over time. The 2.0 strategy we outlined years ago is all coming together. It’s setting us up for an even greater 2022.”

Behind the numbers

Chief Financial Officer Matt Ellis gave some context to the results and the reasons behind our tremendous performance last quarter, which included a 10% rise in earnings per share. “We managed to do all of those big, strategic things for the future, while, at the same time, we had great operational performance, which sets us up with good momentum for the new year.”

Global Network and Technology

Chief Technology Officer Kyle Malady gave an update on C-band, which we officially launched only a week ago. “We’ve already done a lot. We’re at 95 million people covered and over 2.5 million unique people have been able to use C-band. In fact, we’ve already seen 35% growth in C-band usage over the past week.”

Marketing

Chief Marketing Officer Diego Scotti gave an update on our Ultra Launch campaign. “We announced our expansion this month across every business unit in the company. Our goal was simple. To get everyone to hear about the expansion, products and services they can now enjoy.”

Diego also shared that the keynote from the kickoff — The Ultra Show — has now been viewed over 70 million times. But there is more work to be done. “We need all V teamers to help us tell everyone about Ultra and that our plans offer more value than anything else out there.”

He stressed that 5G Home and 5G Business offer a tremendous path to growth for Verizon. “This is the time to really go for it and get anyone who has been considering to switch over to Verizon.”

Diego dropped some hints that this year the Super Bowl is going Ultra with an exceptional 5G experience that will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. “There will be a big moment during the game that will show everyone the power of 5G Ultra.”

Verizon Business Group

Verizon Business CEO Tami Erwin spoke live from SoFi Stadium. She thanked the team for all the years of work done at the stadium, and celebrated Verizon Business closing 4Q with its highest quarterly phone net additions in more than two years. “Here’s to an even better 2022,” said Tami.

Verizon Consumer Group

Verizon Consumer Group CEO Manon Brouillette was live from Miami, where she was joined by TracFone CEO Eduardo Diaz Corona. Manon took questions from V teamers, including one about the best area for growth. “We shouldn’t rely only on the switcher pool. With 5G Home, we have a tremendous opportunity with joint mobile and home accounts.”

Human Resources

New CHRO Sam Hammock answered questions about advancing careers. “We need to continue to invest in the best people that we have here.” She highlighted some of the ways we do that, including the Tuition Assistance Program and the 12% of employees currently enrolled.

Return to campus

Sam said that there is currently no date for when we’ll return to Verizon office locations as part of Work Forward, but she believes she’ll be returning to Up To Speed in the coming weeks with that information. “We’re excited to come back to the office and we’ll do that in a thoughtful way.”

Credo Award winners

Andy suggested all V teamers take the time to read our Credo. “Take a moment to study these words and think about what this credo means to you,” said Andy.

Andy explained that our entire team handled the challenges of getting Ultra up and running so the winner for this year’s Credo Award is the entire V Team. “The Credo is enormously important,” said Hans. “And I love the Purpose Coin because it shows people living up to the Credo, and it reminds us of the values we stand for, for all of our stakeholders.”

Dinner table talk

Hans shared his advice on what to talk about with friends and family. “The Credo is number one. Number two is how excited we are for everything we are coming out with in 2022. It’s the most important year in the history of Verizon. Third, talk about our multi-stakeholder strategy. It ensures the right executions and outcomes for all of us.”
