Happy Monday V Team, on today’s edition of Up To Speed live host Raquel Wilson shared a full news rundown.

“3 Questions With…”

We kicked off the show with another episode of our series “3 Questions With…”’ – the series focuses on allowing leaders from across the business to share their important business updates with all of us. This time we heard from Vice President of Home Product Management, Heather McDavitt who shared everything we need to know about the new Verizon Receiver.

And if you want to learn more about the new Verizon Receiver and Verizon's 10 year price guarantee, click here to watch a recent episode in which Communications Manager Andy Choi shares all the important details.

Climate Resilience Prize

V Team, you’re likely familiar with Citizen Verizon, our responsible business plan – which proclaims our dedication to economic, environmental and social advancement. Well, for the second year we are committed to our Climate Resilience Prize to honor four winners who have created new innovations to help vulnerable populations deal with the effects of climate change.

Last year, Hyfi, Forestry and Fire Recruitment Program, and Coral Vita took first place in each prize category: next-gen tech, frontline community-led, and nature-based solutions.

Our Leading-Edge Tech Solution winner Hyfi, is a startup based in Michigan providing high-resolution water level data to help stormwater managers, first responders, and the public respond to floods in real time. We shared a video which highlighted how Verizon has helped them innovate their operations for the betterment of under-resourced communities.

Raquel shared how excited she is to see who this year’s new winners are and their innovative solutions to combat climate change.

Operation BBQ

Here’s some feel good news for you, our commitment to helping those affected by Hurricane Ian down in Florida has not subsided.

We shared some pictures of the Satellite Solutions team volunteering their time with Operations BBQ Rescue as they do in almost every disaster.

The team was deployed to a Fort Myers East location and provided 1,500 meals over two days. And they also went to a Cape Coral store to be there on the day the store reopened. Over two days, the team distributed 1,600 meals. And a special sweet twist? They secured an icecream truck which nearly fulfilled 100 requests for ice cream.

A big shout out to the Satellite Solutions team for the great work they’re doing for our communities.

A special recognition

We want to take a moment to congratulate V Teamer, Emilio Gonzalez who has worked tirelessly with our foundation to secure a 3 year grant for National ACE, which stands for the National AAPI Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship. The grant will help ACE combat anti-Asian sentiment and discrimination.

Over the past few year’s Emilio's work has culminated in a corporate champion award. We shared a video where we heard from our Chief Financial Officer and Executive Sponsor of PACE, Matt Ellis, regarding his thoughts on Emilio’s recognition.

Congratulations again Emilio! For a well-deserved recognition.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and it’s an important time to remind V Teamers that resources are available. Verizon’s commitment to providing assistance to employees in domestic violence relationships continues this year with a JBWS toolkit that explains how to get help or be an ally all year round.

Last week, V Teamer Amber Nakumura, was compelled to share her powerful testimony on her experience with domestic violence, in the hopes that she can be an advocate for survivors everywhere and help continue this important conversation. You can watch her story by clicking here.
