Installation Steps

Installation can be done in 3 key steps:

  • 1. Install Orbi

  • Download and Use the Orbi app to install and activate your Orbi router & Orbi satellite.

  • 2. Turn off the Wi-Fi on your Fios router

  • Fios Quantum Gatewayblack, angular internet router

    Use one of the following methods:

    Use the My Fios app:

    1. Select Internet from the main screen
    2. Under My Networks, tap Enabled for your Wi-Fi network and switch Enable Private Wi-Fi Access to OFF
    3. Repeat for the other Wi-Fi network listed (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)
    4. Repeat for any guest Wi-Fi network listed
    5. The Wi-Fi indicator light on your Fios router should be off 

    OR

    Online via My Verizon:

    1. Sign in to your account at Verizon.com/myverizon
    2. Choose Services > Internet > My Networks
    3. Then choose Manage and switch Enable Wi-Fi to OFF
    4. Repeat for the other Wi-Fi network listed (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)
    5. Repeat for any guest Wi-Fi network listed

    Online via your computer

    1. Open a browser and enter 192.168.1.1
    2. Sign in with your router name and password
      • Router name: admin
      • Router password: The default password can be found on your router’s label
        Note: If you change the default password, use your new password
    3. Go to Quick Links on the left
    4. Select Change Wireless Settings, then change the button to turn wireless off
    5. The Wi-Fi indicator light on your Fios router should be off.
  • 3. Put your Orbi router in AP mode

    1. Open a browser and type orbilogin.com
    2. Sign in to your Orbi account using your user name admin and admin password created during the Orbi setup
    3. Select the ADVANCED tab > Advanced Setup > Router/AP Mode
    4. Select the AP Mode check box
    5. Click the Apply button (at the top) to save the changes. Your Orbi will reboot. Rebooting will be complete once the satellite’s LED ring light stops glowing magenta. Although you can log back into the Orbi login web page, you don’t need to.

  • How do I connect Orbi Router to my Fios router?

  • Connect one end of the Ethernet cord that came with your Orbi to your Fios router and the other end to the yellow Ethernet port on your Orbi router.
  • Why do I need to turn off Wi-Fi on my Verizon router?

  • You will be using your new Orbi WiFi network so turn off WiFi on your Verizon router to ensure all your devices connect to the Orbi WiFi network and to avoid possible interference of having multiple WiFi networks in your home,
  • How do I turn off Wi-Fi on my Verizon router?

  • Do I have to manually connect all my devices to my new Orbi Wi-Fi network?

  • No. When setting up your Orbi with the Orbi app, if you use the same network name and password for your existing Wi-Fi network, your devices will automatically connect to your Orbi WiFi network. This is why it is important that your turn off Wi-Fi on your Verizon router.

  • What is AP mode and why do I have to put my Orbi into AP mode?

  • AP mode allows your Orbi to be used as a wireless access point, so your Verizon router can still function as your router.

    Your Orbi should be put into AP mode to ensure that all your connected devices work properly and to ensure that you still get all the benefits of the Fios TV app.

  • How do I put my Orbi into AP mode?

    1. Open a browser and type orbilogin.com
    2. Sign in to your Orbi account using your user name admin and admin password created during the Orbi setup
    3. Select the ADVANCED tab > Advanced Setup > Router/AP Mode
    4. Select the AP Mode check box
    5. Click the Apply button (at the top) to save the changes.
    6. When the page refreshes or asks you to log back in, you’re done!
  • Why would my experience with the Fios TV app change after installing Orbi?

  • Some functionality of the Fios TV app is reliant on your Fios router. If you put your Orbi into AP mode, your Fios TV app experience will not change. If you do not put your Orbi in AP mode, you may not be able to access your DVR recordings and your full channel line up through the Fios TV app.
