Why am I getting spam? How can Verizon Online help me with spam?

Use Spam Detector to help prevent spam. Spam Detector filters spam before it reaches your Inbox. It is provided at no additional cost by Verizon Online and is automatically enabled when you set up your account during installation. It begins filtering spam as soon as it is installed.

Report spam that reaches your Inbox. If you are using a spam-filtering tool and still receive spam email, please forward the entire message, with full headers displayed, to spamdetector.notcaught@verizon.net

NOTE: Verizon Online utilizes Spam Blocking technology to filter your email from messages that are considered spam or a security threat. Learn more about Verizon practices relative to the filtering of email sent to Verizon.net email customers.
If you are receiving spam, your email address has probably been sold to a spammer.

Some Web sites collect email addresses and then sell bulk lists to spammers. Once a spammer has your email address, they may sell or trade your email address to other spammers, which increases the volume of spam that you receive.

How do I prevent spam in the future?

Review a web site's privacy policy before providing information about yourself.

The policy outlines how they might use your email address or other personal information that they collect. If a Web site doesn't have a privacy policy or if the policy doesn't explicitly guarantee that your personal information will not be shared, you should assume that any information you provide to that site could be sold to spammers or other direct marketers.
