On today’s special edition of Up To Speed Live, Hans Vestberg and Matt Ellis discussed our first quarter financial results, how we continue to serve our four stakeholders, guidance on business going forward and answered questions from employees.

Credo Award recipients:

On the night of March 2 and early morning of March 3, West and Middle Tennessee got hit by tornadoes. A significant portion of our network infrastructure in the area was impacted. Fiber backhaul was destroyed and more than 250 cell sites out of service immediately following the storm.

While the entire team reacted quickly, Andy Stump, Engineer IV Specialist Network Field Engineer based in Knoxville, TN, and Jeff Massey, Engineer III Specialist Network Field Engineer in Whites Creek, TN, went above and beyond. They set up SPOTs (Satellite Pico Cell on Trailers) to support local Emergency Operations Centers and used the satellite trailers to connect sites to the network.

Despite a myriad of challenges, including working incredibly long hours in challenging conditions caused by downed power lines and trees, they never lost focus on the priority of providing service to those who desperately needed it in the wake of this event.

Not only that, when the Chattanooga area was hit hard overnight on Easter Sunday (April 12), both men quickly raised their hands to help out with recovery and response efforts there.
