On today’s Up To Speed Live, host Andy Choi welcomed CEO Hans Vestberg back to the program. Hans and Andy shared the following updates:

Business update

Hans said he’s excited to start the second half of the year with so much momentum coming out of the second quarter. That includes the Network team continuing to win with 5G built right. Industry observers acknowledged as much with J.D. Power and RootMetrics naming us the best network. We’re also deploying more advanced network gear than ever before.

On the retail side, our heroes in the stores continue to do an outstanding job serving our customers. We have seen great traction with our Broken Phone Promo and Biggest Upgrade Ever promotions to help our customers take full advantage of 5G devices and services.

The Verizon Business group continues to do amazing things, including a huge win for our Public Sector team as they landed a US Department of Defense contract in support of  their Air National Guard Readiness Center

We also continue to be on the leading edge of technological innovation. As just one example, we’re partnering with Skyward and Parrot to bring the first 4G LTE connected drone to the U.S. market

Christy news

Hans announced that Chief Human Resources Officer Christy Pambianchi will be leaving the company. She and her team have accomplished so much during her time with us, including throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We thank her for her many contributions and wish her well.

The Human Resources team is in good hands. Craig Silliman, our Chief Administrative, Legal and Public Policy Officer, will be filling in as interim HR lead. We will continue to execute on the plans we have already laid out.

COVID-19 updates

With COVID-19 cases rising amid the Delta variant, it’s important to remember that our COVID-19 task force is actively monitoring developments across the globe, paying close attention to what public health authorities are recommending, like WHO, CDC and local-level guidance.

As we remain focused on guidance issued by health experts, we are now recommending — not requiring — that fully vaccinated employees and customers wear masks in our work locations. This includes stores, offices, garages and whenever on site at a company or customer location.

Masks will continue to be required for those not fully vaccinated and those in locations where masks are required by local law.

As a reminder, you must certify using the RTO Tool when working outside your home.

Innovative Learning HQ

Our Citizen Verizon team is hard at work at the beginning of the school year to make sure no one is left behind by providing students and educators with critical services and support. That includes a new education portal launching August 23 called the Verizon Innovative Learning HQ, which will help to scale the resources of Verizon Innovative Learning.
