Any way you slice it, it’s been another landmark year for Verizon’s network. On today’s Up To Speed, we celebrate some of the key highlights of the past 12 months.
Network build: Ultra Wideband
Let’s start with the work we did on our ultra-fast buildout of 5G Ultra Wideband. We blew past our year-end target of 14,000 new cell sites. In fact, our 2021 5G cell site deployment nearly doubled the previous two years combined. It’s incredible to think that we’re already providing 5G phone service to parts of 87 U.S. cities; 5G Home to parts of 65 cities; and 5G Business Internet to parts of 62 cities.
We’ve also got lightning-fast speeds over wireless and wireline. And our future looks even brighter — and faster — with a recent lab test achieving download speeds of a whopping 7.92 Gbps.
And if you want to talk about relentless innovation, look no further than our C-Band spectrum commercial deployment, which is expected to cover 100 million additional customers by the end of March 2022. It’s no wonder that we’re known for always pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
RootMetrics and JD Power Wins
Throughout all of this work, the focus has remained on quality. That’s why we’re 5G Built Right and we’ve got the hardware to prove it. This year marked Verizon’s 16th consecutive RootMetrics win for overall network performance and network reliability. No small feat considering RootMetrics is the nation’s most rigorous and scientific network tester.
And for the 27th time in a row, J.D. Power named Verizon tops in Network Quality — more than any other carrier. You can add that win to our more than 170 J.D. Power Awards for Network Quality over the last 17 years.
Global tech wins
Our Global Technology Solutions team continues to help our customers easily buy the latest devices online or at one of our touchless retail locations. We offer new Business Evolution Unlimited 2.0 plans to give wireless customers more premium data, more hotspot data and more value. Our 5G Business Internet plan is now offered in 60 markets.
And, GTS’s standardization of Work Forward processes and collaboration tools — including Google Workplace, Bluejeans and Slack — demonstrates Verizon’s industry-leading competitive advantage.
MultiView
Another highlight for 2021 was our many partnerships. That includes our NFL partnership which reimagined fan experiences with Verizon 5G Multi-View, delivering multiple camera angles and more.
THOR
At the same time, our Verizon Frontline has been supporting our first responders. We debuted THOR, our new mobile, rapid-response command center vehicle that can deploy Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband along with other technologies, applications and advanced computing solutions. This level of innovation landed THOR a spot on Popular Science’s “Best of What’s New” list.
Thanks to our team for reaching these milestones and for giving us so many reasons to be excited for what’s to come in 2022.
