On today’s live edition of Up to Speed, we shared the following updates:
Storm update
Northern California was hit with a series of atmospheric river and bomb cyclones, causing floods, landslides and power outages affecting millions of people in the West.
But as always, keeping customers connected no matter the weather is what we do. Verizon’s network is designed to withstand extreme weather, with battery and generator backup systems in critical locations to minimize the risk of service disruption if commercial power is lost.
Safety is our number one priority, and our engineers are working around the clock to respond quickly to any network issues so that our customers can stay connected when it matters most.
Verizon Business news
Last Thursday was a big day for our Verizon Business Group as they came together in person and virtually around the world for their Kickoff to discuss how they will deliver big in 2023. Raquel was on-site to hear about the team’s excitement and we heard from Verizon Business CEO, Sowmyanarayan Sampath.
Verizon Business recently announced that its private 5G wireless network is live at The Smart Factory @ Wichita.
The smart factory is a new immersive experience center convened by Deloitte that helps companies adopt state-of-the-art solutions and technologies to boost quality, productivity and sustainability.
Verizon will help customers innovate their connectivity and use of data with select use cases like increased shop floor visibility, improved quality assurance, reduced defects, material handling automation, and workplace safety.

Meet the V Team
We shared the story of Priyansh Nigam, a Senior Manager with our Tech Product Management team based in Atlanta. Priyansh oversees the development of our Gizmo Watches. The incredible irony is that his son, who’s on the autism spectrum wears the watch and Priyansh shared an incredible story of how it one day helped bring him back to safety.
Citizen Verizon news
Verizon was invited to participate as evaluators of the Junior Achievement Company Program.
The program empowers high school students to fill a need or solve a problem in their community. V Teamers Fabio Gomes Belem, Priscila Signore Arruda and Paulo Pontin had the opportunity to meet the winning team “PSA Artesanais” from Bagre, a small town in Northern Brazil. They developed products utilizing the seeds of the Açai fruit to make handicrafts like earrings, rings and more.
These products not only help the environment, in terms of avoiding waste, but they’ll also help change the lives of many people in their city that can now manufacture these products for a living.
The team was awarded a trip to visit Verizon’s Headquarters in São Paulo.
Congratulations to these innovative thinkers!
Add to your calendars
V Team, here’s some important information to add to your calendars.
This upcoming Monday, January 16th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Our BOLD Employee Resource Group is reminding us that Martin Luther King Jr. Day day should be celebrated by volunteering our time.
V Teamers can participate in a virtual litter cleanup event and if you’re in Dallas or Tulsa you also have an in-person litter cleanup event option.
For more about MLK day and volunteer opportunities check out our VZWeb article.
And keep in mind that on Tuesday January 24th, our leaders will be sharing our Q4 earnings results on Up To Speed.
