On today’s Up To Speed Live, we celebrate International Women’s Day. Host Diana Alvear shared the following updates:
Choose to challenge
When it comes to women’s progress in the workplace, we’ve come a long way, but there is still more work to be done. That’s why Diana shared a powerful video to kick off the show focused on this year's theme, “Choose to Challenge”.
Someone who lives that theme every day is Bozoma St John, the CMO of Netflix, who describes herself as “Badass Boz.” In a MAKERS conversation with writer Luvvie Ajayi, Bozoma spoke about how living out loud and authentically is key to her leadership style and how she urges other women to find and utilize what makes them unique.
Leadership panel discussion
In the spirit of inspiring the next generation of women leaders, our Raquel Wilson recently had an extended and spirited conversation with three fellow V Team women: leader of Global Talent Sam Hammock, VP of AI and Data Meghna Sinha and former Adfellow Kiarah Leite who supports the Verizon Consumer Group. Check out the full discussion.
Women’s CoLab
Part of developing the next generation of women leaders is giving them access to the resources they need to succeed. At Verizon, we’re so fortunate to have access to so many leaders and resources, but we know that this is not everyone’s reality outside our walls. That’s the idea behind the Women’s CoLab, a new initiative that will launch later this year. Consider it a career engine that brings together best-in-class resources and content to empower women to own their careers and realize their greatest ambitions. We’re calling on other industry leaders and partners to join us in this effort. Together, we can build a future of work that works for women.
Verizon Business women’s initiatives
This Wednesday, Verizon Business is launching #WomenOwnWednesday, a social campaign spotlighting women entrepreneurs and small business owners throughout the country who make meaningful contributions within their communities.
Also, the Verizon Business Women’s Leadership Digital Summit will convene later this year, bringing together women of the global workforce including executives, business owners, essential workers and global decision-makers.
Women of the World
Also, our Women of the World program is now taking applications. This successful program keeps expanding and this year, it’s available in all parts of our business. It’s a year-long developmental experience for women that focuses on building five core strengths: building your personal brand, self-leadership, communication, critical thinking and empowering you to own your career. You get to hear from trailblazers and network with other women from across the globe. Learn more details here.
WAVE - Get involved
We couldn’t celebrate today without giving a huge shout out to our awesome Employee Resource Group WAVE, the Women’s Association of Verizon Employees and the largest ERG at Verizon, which is open to all employees. Recently, Diana spoke with WAVE leaders Elise Neel, Kia Wilson and Samatha Brown about why the mission of the group is more important than ever. Be sure to check out the full conversation.
Feeling inspired? We’re asking folks to share their hope for the next generation of women on social media. Pick a barrier to challenge and, if you're comfortable, make it personal so we foster a groundswell of honest dialogue. And, don’t forget to add #ChoosetoChallenge and #IamVZ.
