On today’s Up To Speed Live, host Andy Choi kicked off the show by sharing our new spot that debuted over the weekend. It’s all about how our engineers continue to push themselves to take peak performance to a new level with amazing results that benefit our customers.

Speed record broken

Speaking of pushing ourselves, our research engineers in our test lab in Bedminster, NJ, announced a new speed record, as they broke the 5 gigabit per second barrier for the first time. The new spot highlights the mindset it takes to break new ground and stay hungry for success. We should all find inspiration in what our engineers are doing.

Chief Technology Officer Kyle Malady shared his reaction. “I love this new ad. It personifies everything we’re trying to do here at Verizon. We press the bounds of technology and continue to innovate because at the end of the day, that’s what matters to our customers.”

Andy had a live interview with Paul Nitzche, who is on the device technology team and part of the team that helped break the speed record. “The challenge came down from management that breaking the five gig barrier could be done in theory, but what about in a real world environment?” remembered Paul. “After much struggle and frustration, and trial and error, we kept optimizing and finally made it happen.”

How about you?

Andy mentioned that our “Verizon vs. Verizon” campaign is not just about our engineers but about all of us at Verizon. In fact, it’s part of our Credo. If you know of someone who embodies that mindset of pushing themselves and overcoming obstacles, let us know about them by dropping us a line at the Good Mailbox at good@verizon.com.

Upcoming on Up To Speed

Some important episodes coming up this week:

Tuesday: On the anniversary of George Floyd’s death, we’ll reflect on what we’ve done when it comes to conversations, social justice and what we can continue to do going forward.

Wednesday: Christy Pambianchi with a special mid-week episode about Work Forward and what it means for you.

Game time

Andy put on his game show sportcoat and hosted a live quiz all about gaming. In the gaming space, the speed of a network is critical. Here is why gaming is such an exciting space for 5G and Verizon:

  • Gamers over-index on interest in 5G.
  • The performance benefits of 5G are readily apparent, especially for multiplayer gameplay.
  • Over half of adults are mobile gamers, and they spend an average of twelve hours on mobile gaming per week. Most of them play daily.
  • Over 70% of households have some type of gamer - mobile, console and/or PC.

Our top ten contestants won a Razer Kishi Gaming Controller for the mobile phone iOS of their choosing -- a perfect accessory to take advantage of our new Mix & Match additions of Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass. Remember that Verizon is your one-stop-shop for mobile gaming accessories.

Our own exciting gaming news

Our resident tech expert, George Koroneos shared the news that our Mix & Match offer just got better with 6 months of Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass on us. Get all of the details here.
